The NVIDIA Jetson module receives image sensor data via high-speed MIPI CSI-2. This MIPI CSI-2 connection behaves like a parallel bus, firing data streams simultaneously across 4 physical lanes. GMSL combines everything – video data, DC power, clock signals, and bidirectional I2C control – into a single coaxial cable. This means that to connect a GMSL camera to a Jetson module, you must have a deserializer between the camera and the module to separates these signals and route the video streams into the Jetson module’s data lanes.
Jetson AGX Solution Overview
Connect Tech Camera Expansion Boards plug into the carrier board via a high-density connector and support up to 8 cameras. The boards use the Maxim MAX9296A Deserializer to convert high-speed serial data to parallel MIPI CSI-2 for the NVIDIA Jetson module. Power over Coax (PoC) transmits power, data, and control signals through a single Coaxial cable, simplifying cable routing and installation.

Allied Vision Alvium GMSL2 cameras support FAKRA coaxial and HDS STP connectors. Use the FAKRA coaxial connector for Connect Tech carriers.
Camera Expansion Boards
JCB002 GMSL2 Camera Board: Connects up to 8 GMSL1 or GMSL2 cameras. Includes PoC, short detection, and overcurrent protection. Power cameras via the camera expansion board header or through the external 12V power input connector.
JCB022 GMSL2 Plus Camera Board: Offers the same functionality as the JCB002 with advanced triggering and software-selectable update options
Quad FAKRA Cables
Connect Tech camera expansion boards feature 2x MATE-AX Quad Coax connectors, supporting up to 8 cameras. Each Quad FAKRA cable provides 4 breakout connectors. Zip-tie or trim any unused leads.

Connecting the Hadron-GMSL Carrier (Jetson Orin NX) to Alvium GMSL2 Cameras
Jetson Orin NX Solution Overview
The Hadron-GMSL (NGX018) features two GMSL ports with PoC. The onboard Maxim MAX9296A Deserializer converts two GMSL serial inputs into two 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 inputs for the Jetson module.

GMSL Cable
Use cable CBG619. The Hadron-GMSL supports one Alvium GMSL2 camera per GMSL port. The board features two MMCX-J-P-H-ST-TH1 connectors for Samtec MMCX Plug to FAKRA Plug Z-Type IP67 cables.

A Note About FPD-Link III
Most developers now standardize on GMSL for high-speed, single-stream serial vision sensing. If you require FPD-Link III, Connect Tech provides full support.
Jetson AGX Orin or Jetson AGX Thor: Use the JCB006 FPD-Link III Camera Board. The JCB006 connects up to 8 FPD-Link III cameras with PoC. Use the Quad FAKRA cable.
Jetson Orin NX: use the Lepton Carrier, which features 4x FPD-Link III camera inputs. Use the Quad FAKRA cable.
